What exactly does a green building or home mean these days? There are several different interpretations of this, but what it all comes down to is homes and building that are very energy efficient. This can be a brand new building or home, or an older one being retrofitted to conserve energy. Anyone who follows propane prices per gallon will benefit from a “greener” home.
Making you home green can be done incrementally if you have a small budget to work with. You could start out by caulking your windows and doors. This is probably the best ways to improve your homes energy rating. Caulking is a simple do it yourself project you can do. It’s a big project that you can break down into small jobs. You can choose to do a window a day when you have the time, or try to get them all done over a weekend.
Most of the drafts and air leaks you get into the home will be because of poorly sealed windows and doors. Before you begin, you will need to clean away the old cracking and missing caulk. By doing this, you will give yourself a clean surface to work with, plus it will adhere to the frame better, giving you a better seal.
